A brand new recreation heart will open in southeast Aurora, Colorado in early 2023

Aurora’s newest leisure center is funded entirely from marijuana tax revenues.

AURORA, Colorado – The city of Aurora has broken new ground with its newest leisure center.

The 62,000 square meter recreation center is expected to be completed in early 2023.

The center is located at 25400 East Alexander Drive, 600 acres west of Aurora Reservoir and just south of the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds in southeast Aurora.

The $ 41.9 million project will be funded entirely from marijuana tax revenue, according to the city.

Features of the center include an indoor pool with a waterslide, pool party rooms, a fitness area with a 1,000-square-meter fitness lawn area, group exercise rooms, multi-purpose common rooms, a fitness studio, a running track “Figure 8” of various heights, and a 20,000-square-meter indoor field house .

The city said the center will also include integrated public art.

After a public process, Aurora’s Art in Public Places program selected the Indianapolis-based project One Studio to develop an art installation called “Florescence”, which will be integrated through the leisure center.
