Aurora Doctor Confuses Why Vaccine Demand Is Falling – CBS Denver

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – Dr. PJ Parmar didn’t think he would be vaccinated anymore. He admits that he thought it would only be a month or two and then he would go back to his normal job running Mango House, a clinic that focuses on Colorado’s refugee population. After more than 6,000 shots, demand begins to decline.

“We haven’t gotten to the point where we’re seeing sharp declines. We just noticed that our decline is steadily decreasing. I wonder if that will taper or if it will go further down, ”said Parmar.

“I think there are a few reasons for this; One thing is, I think people can find supply elsewhere, which is fantastic, they can get it in other places; The other is that the demand is falling a little. The people who really, really wanted it got it. “

Parmar began recruiting volunteers to help vaccinate the 80010 zip code. He often calls it the poorest zip code in the Denver metropolitan area. He says the last four months of vaccinations have stressed and overwhelmed his employees.

Volunteers are now helping to convey patient information and even manage admissions, but demand is fluctuating.

“I recently recruited a number of volunteers and then the demand drops. So there are times when the volunteers stand idle and I feel guilty for calling these people and they are here to help. I’m worried about when we won’t need volunteers, but hopefully that won’t happen soon, ”said Parmer.

He’s not sure if demand is falling because access and supply increase elsewhere, or if more needs to be done to reach people who are reluctant to take their pictures.

“They are all minorities and also the Caucasian population, they are all declining a bit. So we’re trying to come up with new innovative ideas on how we can push them forward, ”he said.

He’s made a few house calls for people who couldn’t make it to his clinic, but he thinks the community is the best part of getting more people to come to get the vaccine.

“In the churches, in the groceries, at sporting events, some people just have to keep hearing that. From their doctor or other trusted sources, ”he said.
