Aurora has lunch for retired lecturers to assist out the pantries

The Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association is hosting a lunch fundraiser on Tuesday, February 2nd, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm

The event at Gaslite Manor, 2485 Church Road in Aurora will benefit Marie Wilkinson and Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantries.

The association is a social and service group of almost 400 former teachers from the schools of Aurora, Batavia and Kaneland.

The public is invited. Starters for lunch include ham, beef tips, or baked cod. Side dishes include vegetables, buttered pasta, and a biscuit. Association volunteers will deliver lunch when guests pull up under a canopy on the doorstep.

Lunch is $ 20 each. The deadline for reservations is Friday, January 22nd. Call Dick Schindel, AARTA President, at (630) 921-1307 or send an order and check to AARTA at 784 Morningside Ave., Aurora, IL 60505.

The drive-through benefit is the third bimonthly go-to benefit in a row for AARTA. The project started in October after face-to-face meetings were suspended due to the pandemic.

The December 1 event sold 115 lunches that raised $ 1,200 for Aurora Communities in Schools, as well as donations of coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, and socks. CIS, a non-profit organization, offers Aurora students free after-school and summer programs and counseling services.

In addition, AARTA members sold 200 hand-made face masks and 96 homemade lap blankets, which were delivered to six nursing homes in Aurora and Batavia. Association President Schindel put on a Santa Claus outfit to deliver lunch to customers.

Potential members are invited. Call (630) 921-1307, email [email protected], or visit
