Aurora Standoff results in fireplace, protected space within the college

AURORA, Colorado. – According to a tweet from the Aurora Police Department (APD), officers were forced to enter a house to put out a fire set by a suspect barricaded inside.

The suspect, who the APD identified as 57-year-old Gregory Ewing, has since been arrested and, according to the APD, must bring at least one charge of assault. He refused to leave a house on the 24200 block of East Davies Place Friday afternoon after “physical disorder” with a female victim who officials said had been brought to safety.

The house where the incident took place is in a neighborhood near East Arapahoe Road and the South Aurora Parkway.

Law enforcement activities in the area resulted in a brief safe perimeter at Coyote Hills Elementary, which has since been lifted.

The Aurora Fire Department was called in to secure the house and investigate the fire that was inside.

Firefighters have yet to release any information about how much damage the house has sustained.
