Aurora’s Caden Svoboda and Trevor Kluck scored lifelong goals on Saturday night.

Husky’s senior duo won their first elusive state championships at 106 and 145, respectively, making Aurora their first state champion since Garret Johns in 2012.

Svoboda had control for most of his final game against Gerings Ashton Dane and won a 6-0 decision. It was Svoboda’s second appearance in a row in the state finals and his first time on the podium. He finished his senior season with a 41-2 record.

Kluck fell back early in his final against Landon Weidner from Hastings, but later prevailed in the game and won a 6-4 decision. Kluck goes down as Aurora’s most successful wrestler in school history and finishes his senior season at 44-1.

Mack Owens was Aurora’s other finalist but landed on the wrong end of a 5-10 win over Bennington’s Luke MacDonald. Owens finishes his junior season 41-4.

Aurora was third in the class B team race behind Gering and Beatrice. Low won with 116.5 points ahead of Beatrice with 112.5. Aurora was third with 107.

It was the first time since the 2005 season that Aurora had three finalists when the Huskies finished second at Omaha Skutt. It is also the first time since 2005 that they had two national champions with Levi Wofford and Caleb Huenefeld.

Aurora had five medalists, including Svoboda (1st), Kluck (1st), Owens (2nd), Brekyn Papineau (3rd) and Aaron Jividen (4th).
