A fatal crash was caused by an unknown steel projectile on Friday.
The driver, a 44-year-old woman, was driving her brown Cadillac SUV south on Interstate 225 near East Colfax Avenue when the projectile came through the driver’s side window and the woman was hit. Early research suggested the crash was caused by a medical problem.
Aurora Police Department information officer Crystal McCoy said the projectile was described as a metal rod. It is still unknown where the bar came from.
“This resulted in the Cadillac colliding with another vehicle and causing minor damage to that vehicle,” said a press release. “The Cadillac went ahead and hit a concrete bulkhead.”
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital but died from her injuries. The exact cause of death has not been determined. It is speculated that it either struck the concrete bulkhead from being hit with the metal projectile, or by a combination of the two.
There was no alcohol, drug or speeding related to the cause of the crash.
The woman’s identity has yet to be made public.
