Fox Valley Marine Corps League, Aurora Pantry will host the Memorial Day Pantry May 28th

On Friday, May 28, the Fox Valley Marine Corps League and Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry are hosting their first Memorial Day Pantry in honor of Veterans and Gold Star families.

All Veterans, Gold Star families, and active service members are invited to the pantry at 1110 Jericho Road in Aurora between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. for a gift of groceries including meat, milk, fresh fruits and vegetables, and non-perishable items at home . Participants are asked to bring ID with them.

For the past four years, Aurora Food Pantry has hosted an annual Veterans Day Pantry that serves an average of 90 veterans, many of whom have never been to Aurora Food Pantry before.

The Pantry hopes to reach out to even more veterans at this year’s event and show them their weekly services.

Every veteran in the community is welcome to come weekly and receive approximately $ 140 worth of groceries with each visit.

The event, held the Friday before Memorial Day, is planned as one of the many Memorial Day activities held in honor of our veterans across the community. The event will be funded by the Fox Valley Marine Corps League, Illinois Joining Forces, and the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

“We encourage all veterans to help us remember those who fell and to honor all of our veterans,” said Kris Kearns, commandant of the Fox Valley Marine Corps League. “This is an opportunity for us to thank everyone who served their country in the military by sharing a gift with food. We hope all of the veterans in the community will join us.”

Shannon Cameron, General Manager of Aurora Food Pantry, hopes the community will help share information about this special event.

“While this is a gift for all Veterans, we urge Veterans and other community members to make special efforts to extend this invitation to all Veterans who they know have problems, as the gift of groceries gives them an added bonus Level of support. ” Said Cameron. “Veterans have given so much to our country and we are honored to serve them.”
