Help the Aurora Space Interfaith Pantry on the 13th Annual Vacation Meals Drive

Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry is hosting its 13th Annual Holiday Food Drive November 1-25 at three local grocery stores: Prisco’s Family Market, 1108 Prairie St., Aurora; Cermak Fresh Market, 1250 N. Lake St., Aurora; and La Chiquita, 1525 Douglas Rd., Montgomery.

Buyers can purchase prepackaged grocery bags for $ 5, $ 10, and $ 15 for a donation to Aurora Food Pantry, as well as making cash donations to provide much-needed groceries for families in our community who are in trouble.

Before COVID-19 cases escalated in the US, the Aurora Food Pantry served 38,000 families annually in a freely selectable market environment.

After the pantry passed its pandemic response plan, all food distributions were seamlessly switched to an outdoor drive-through model.

Aurora Food Pantry has worked tirelessly to keep employees, volunteers, and customers safe and has yet to have a positive case on campus. While everyone on campus stayed safe, the impact of the coronavirus on local food insecurity has been significant. 15% of Illinois residents now need additional food aid. With the increased need, another 15,000 families came to the Aurora Food Pantry for help.

With demand rising, food donations declining, and fewer volunteers, the Aurora Food Pantry is asking the community for help.

“Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for food in our community has grown exponentially,” said Alia Rivera, development director. “With the help of our community, Aurora Food Pantry will support our neighbors in need and ensure no one goes hungry during the holidays. This is a traditional time of celebration, but for the 53,000 families who don’t have enough to eat at this time of year, it can be stressful and stressful difficult, “Rivera continued. “We are very grateful to our sponsors and the community for helping make this event a success year after year and for providing nutritious food to our hungry neighbors.”

Aurora Food Pantry and the people they serve in the six surrounding counties need your help more than ever this year. To make a donation, please visit www.aurorafoodpantry.org/donate and select “Holiday Food Drive” as the donation category or send a check with Holiday Food Drive to Aurora Food Pantry, PO Box 2602, Aurora, IL 60507 at Note line.

Every dollar donated brings $ 7 worth of groceries.

Another way to participate is to volunteer flyers for the Holiday Food Drive to buyers in the grocery stores. The amount of donations increases significantly when shoppers are given the food drive information when they enter the stores. This is a great activity for Boy Scouts (wear your uniform!), Youth and church groups, and students in need of community service lessons. The Holiday Food Drive is sponsored by Dolan & Murphy, Inc., Priscos Family Market, Cermak Fresh Market, La Chiquita, 95.9 The River, Aurora Fastprint, the Beacon News, Douglas Carpet One, Gerald Subaru of Naperville / North Aurora, and AC’s Pub.

“95.9 The River will be streamed live in Prisco, Cermak and La Chiquita on the weekends and the day before Thanksgiving,” said Dan Dolan, who initiated and is the primary sponsor of this community food drive. “You can check out Aurora Food Pantry’s website for the schedule and be sure to stop by and say hello,” said Dan.
