Mother of two could also be paralyzed for all times after being shot whereas carjacking in Aurora, says household – CBS Chicago
AURORA, Ill. (CBS) – Anyone can be a victim of carjacking, and last weekend it was a mother of two who just got something to eat in Aurora.
The woman did everything right, but she was shot anyway. On Tuesday night, her family told CBS 2’s Charlie De Mar that their diagnosis would be devastating.
On Tuesday, Kim Weibring had her first of many operations. She had just brought her boys home to their parents’ home and was planning to run some errands when her life changed immediately.
Weibring was in her Hyundai Santa Fe, parked at a Wendy’s on 1260 Orchard Rd. In Aurora around 4pm on Saturday.
“It was stolen. You put a gun to her head, ”said Weibring’s stepfather Jon Reincke. “The other carjacker grabbed her, pulled her out of the car and shot her in the back.”
Reincke added: “It doesn’t matter how old your children are. You are always a parent and this is any parent’s worst nightmare. It’s really.”
Weibring is the mother of two boys. She was shot in the back and left on the cold sidewalk of the fast food restaurant when her car was stolen.
“She left her in a Wendy’s parking lot and only hit her with her arms,” said Reincke. “I mean, she couldn’t feel her legs. She flung around screaming. “
Police said those responsible drove a stolen Ford Escape to Wendy’s. It had been taken in DeKalb County about an hour earlier.
“Obviously she has a long way to go,” said Reincke. “There’s a very good chance she’s been paralyzed for life, and you know you’re just wondering why.”
Nevertheless, Weibring is in a good mood. Reincke said his stepdaughter sent a selfie from her hospital bed.
The police were still looking at Weibring’s car late on Wednesday and the people behind this carjacking.
