Pride Month means dancing, decorating, and having fun in Aurora

AURORA, IL – Pride month starts in a week, and Aurora companies are preparing to put on their party hats in celebration.

Paramount School of the Arts, along with Culture Stock, is celebrating LGBTQ + artisans on June 4th by providing safe places for local artists to sell their stocks on the first Friday. The free event will take place at both locations from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

From handmade jewelry to tarot reading to books written by LGBTQ + authors, there will be no shortage of variety.

Attendees can also take free WERQ Cardio Dance Fitness sample classes in front of the North Island Center, 8 E. Galena Blvd., from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

First Friday Selected Pride Month Craftsmen:

Cultural Inventory: The Cultural Inventory is an Aurora staple and includes books that focus on LGBTQ + stories and authors.

Paramount Performing Arts Center: Enjoy a one-stop shop that supports local LGBTQ + creatives.

Hector Ortiz: Hector will sell his handcrafted jewelry. Pieces include wire wrapped crystals and pearl earrings, necklaces, and pendants.

Then on June 13, the Paramount School of the Arts will join dozens of locals and organizations participating in Aurora Pride Drive. Due to COVID-19, the physical parade will be canceled again in 2021, but fun can definitely be had.

Aurors are invited to decorate their homes, shops, or places of worship and to celebrate Aurora’s LGBTQ + community.

Participants can decorate their vehicle and drive the route past Aurora’s most lush spots.

If you’d like to submit a photo of your decor, vote for a special price. Donation boxes for non-perishable food that will benefit the Aurora Area Interfaith Pantry will be scattered.
