Frostbite occurs when freezing temperatures damage skin and tissues and the affected areas run out of blood, nutrients, and oxygen.
In 5-degree weather with 30 miles per hour wind, frostbite can occur in 30 minutes. With five below zero and 30 miles an hour wind, frostbite can occur in about 10 minutes.
