JEFFERSON – The West Branch softball team plays at a high level and the Warriors are just one win away from a county championship.

Jordan Anderson’s two-piece double in the third inning brought the Warriors into play, and a key RBI single from Sam Morris in the seventh helped the team beat Aurora 5-3 in a div. II. District Semifinals at Jefferson Area High School.

West Branch (21-6) will face Mogadore Field in the county championship at 4 p.m. Thursday at Jefferson Area High School. Field beat Poland 9-2 in the other semifinals of the day.

Aurora (19-8) was 4-0 behind in fourth place, but came back with two runs in the lower part of the fifth to put pressure on the Warriors. A home game by McKennah Metzgar led the sixth cut of West Branch 4-3.

Anderson scored three straight outs in the seventh to secure victory for the Warriors. Anderson threw 89 pitches and 65 were for strikes.

Sydney Mercer turned out to be a critical piece in the line-up with two hits. Jaci Thomas added a pair of hits and an RBI.

In the other game of the day, Area Power Poland’s season stalled when Field scored 13 goals in a blowout win.

Alexsa Hurd had a home run, hitting six in a full game for Field.

Poland ended their season 18-7.
