Why AURORA’s single Runaway 2016 climbed the charts

Over the past year, TikTok helped improve several songs on the official table, but one of the most surprising of the past few months has been AURORA’s Runaway.

The ethereal Folktronica track was released in 2015 and can be seen on the Norwegian artist’s EP Running with the Wolves. It also served as the lead single from their debut album All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend.

Most will remember AURORA for their breakout single Half The World Away, a cover of Oasis ‘1994 hit that set John Lewis’ Christmas commercials in 2015 to music. In 2019 she teamed up with Idina Menzel for the Frozen 2 theme song Into The Unknown, which peaked in the top 20.

In the Runaway Challenge on TikTok, users pose for the song and freeze the images against the backdrop of a starry sky and surreal sunsets according to the track.

Since then, Runaway has appeared in the official singles table for the first time, climbing to 100th place earlier this month and climbing to 59th place in this week’s table.

“It is very unexpected!” AURORA told OfficialCharts.com. “And it’s nice to see an old flame love again, like Runaway does now.”

However, she also admits that she “finds”[s] It’s hard to care too much, adding, “Things like that have never been so important to me. But of course I think it’s beautiful.

“I love the TikTok videos people made for Runaway. It feels like a safe world for people to express beauty and freedom, and I’m all for it. People are so beautiful!”

The unexpected viral hit couldn’t be better for AURORA, who are planning to release new music very soon. Speaking of her upcoming project, she said, “I think the best I can say is that you can expect the unexpected. I know that my journey within music is very long. And I’m going to get a lot of weird ones Visiting places in my mind.

“People may love it and they may not like it. But at least I’m having a lot of fun.”
